SHO-AIR/Sonance
2009 So Cal MCL
Team Champions
Congratulations to the 2009 Masters Cycle League Champions.
An early break of four right off
the starting line included representation from Amgen/Giant,
Ironfly and Cynergy. The excitement continued nearly the entire
race as Sho-Air/Sonance's Stephen Feretti scored the first preem
points and was then unable to hang with the break. Sho-Air/Sonanace
responded quickly sending MJ across to the break to relieve
Feretti who dropped from the break. With his fresher legs, MJ
scored the second set of preem points for the team ensuring a
Sho-Air/Sonanace MCL win but DeWalt Racing was not about to let
the break stick. DeWalt Racing came alive at two to go and with
a monstrous effort, pulled back the breakaway causing casualties
throughout the pack as it splintered on the final lap. With the
breakaway gone and a field sprint coming, Sho-Air sent fresh
riders to the front for the final points points grab with
Gabriel and Palonetti taking 1st and 2nd. Amgen-Giant scored the
only other points with a 3rd, 5th and 6th at the finish
eliminating hopes of any other teams scoring points for the day. |

Ironfly
wins 2008 MCL title!
It was a nail biter as Mark
Scott of Cynergy Cycles easily scored both points preems,
reducing Ironfly's lead to just 10 points. Hector Saldana, Mark
Scott and G3 all threatened the lead with breakaway attempts,
but the entire field came back together when it was time for the
end game. With one non-MCL rider escaping on a solo break, it
would be up to the sprinters to score the end points from the
final field sprint. Victor Ayala (La Grange) wound up taking the
eight sprint points in the end with Ironfly's Phillips scoring
seven points just edging out Cynergy's Mark Scott for six. But
the depth of the Ironfly team also was evident as Rob Kampilla,
Vince Dimeglio and Greg Lonergan also scored points sealing the
season's win for Ironfly. Schroeder's Brett Claire and Major
Motion's Mike Davis also earned points closing an outstanding
MCL season and one of the closest ever.

Ironfly retains lead as Cynergy Cycles scores big
points.
Outnumbered by Cynergy Cycles, Ironfly
still holds a close lead. Ironfly's Phillips scored the
most points possible by one rider in an MCL race as he
took both points preems as well as the final win! The
competition again was vicious on this challenging, hilly
course. Rider attrition was abundant during the day
costing NOW/MS its chance to score as Antony Galvan
abandoned. With the climb putting the hurt on the field,
Ironfly's Phillips timed his attacks just right to pick
up both points preems as well as the big 8 points at
stake in the final finish. But the depth of Cynergy's
team showed as Cynergy placed five riders in the points
final sprint to earn top team points for the day. Starr,
Bausch, Konsmo, Leibert and Fluss brought home the bulk
of the MCL points for Cynergy passing Schroeder Iron and
bringing them into second place in the standings.
Ironfly's Kampilla and Dimeglio earned 6th and 7th place
MCL points to help maintain Ironfly's lead over Cynergy.
The series is too close to call now as Ironfly holds a
mere 14 point lead so it's all up to the finals coming
up at Ladera Ranch

Schroeder
vs. Ironfly!
San Pedro Grand
Prix
The battle raged furiously as
Ironfly launched two unsuccessful attempts at both two point
preems, but it was Schroeder's Bud Owens who snagged both of
them. An incredibly fast breakaway of Thurlow Rogers and Tom
Farley managed to elude the pack for the remainder of the race
but in the end, it was Ironfly's Kevin Phillips who won the key
eight MCL points when he clinched the field sprint with Dimeglio
and Kampilla scoring another ten for Ironfly. Cynergy Cycles
Romney, Rubin and Worthington held on to score six points total
for their team while Scott Evans picked up five points for
NOW/MS. Next race is the San Marcos Criterium July 27th.

Schroeder Iron
takes the lead!
Barry Wolfe
Once again it was new MCL team Schroeder Iron who
demonstrated the teamwork required by placing Frank
Schroeder himself in the winning breakaway at the Barry
Wolfe Memorial Grand Prix. Earlier attacks that took
place by Ironfly's Kevin Phillips failed to secure
those elusive mid-race points preems as Antony Galvan(NOW/MS) and Frank Schroeder (Ironfly) stole them
with their well timed attacks. Ironfly's Greg Lonergan
saved the the day by picking up third place points in
the final sprint to keep Ironfly at still one point away
from the lead now held by Schroeder Iron. Next race-San
Pedro Grand Prix 6/22/08 |

Schroeder Iron scores big!
It was new MCL team Schroeder Iron who shined the
brightest today at the
Torrance Crit
as the pack was animated by Pat Caro,
Craig Miller, Bud Owens and Frank Schroeder. Several
attacks took place throughout the race but the key
attack was Kevin Phillips (Ironfly) who rode away solo to
win each of the 2 point MCL preems. Later, Ironfly
launched Todd Lipson to pick up 6 points for third in
the final sprint bringing Ironfly to within one point of
the lead! Newcomer to MCL, Bob Spalding (PenCC) scored 3
points for his team keeping them just tied with NOW/MS.

Matthews(Major Motion) scoring 5 and 6 points each at
